Is freelancing better than working for some else?
The answer is…it depends! It depends on your individual circumstances, preferences, and career goals. There are lots of great benefits to freelancing, but there are some drawbacks. It’s up to you to weigh up the pros and cons and decide what suits you best. Our blog post Is Freelancing Worth It? (The Pros and Cons) is a good place to start.
-
How can I go from a full-time job to freelancing?
Starting any new career requires careful planning and preparation, and freelancing is no exception. We recommend considering the following steps:
- Evaluate your skills and experience. What are you good at? What services could you offer potential clients?
- Research freelance careers. What would you enjoy doing? Is there demand for your skills and services? Which industries and niches could you target?
- Take additional training to fill any skills gaps. Are you missing any key skills? Does any of your knowledge need a refresh?
- Develop a business plan. What are your goals? Who is your target market? How will you market your services? What is your budget?
- Decide on your rates. What do freelancers with your skill and experience level usually charge?
- Prepare financially. Do you have some money saved to cover expenses while you build up a consistent income?
- Build a portfolio. How will you showcase your work to potential clients?
- Network within your industry. How will you connect with other freelancers, industry professionals, and potential clients?
It can take time to build a successful freelance business, so we’d suggest freelancing on the side at first. This will allow you to test the waters and build your client base, without immediately having to worry about your income.
-
Do freelancers work from home?
Many freelancers work from home. However, many also choose to work from cafés, in coworking spaces, or while traveling. One of the best things about freelancing is the flexibility – you can work from anywhere you like!
-

As a beginner, sifting through so many resources – and determining which are valuable – can be overwhelming.
