Samira is an avid globetrotter and travel blogger based in Rabat, Morocco. After completing the Becoming A Proofreader course, she started working for Proofed, which was her first professional proofreading job. And to see how she has been getting on, we asked her about how freelance proofreading has fitted in with her travel plans.

Hi, Samira. What inspired you to try freelance proofreading?

I’ve been self-employed as a writer and online ESL teacher for about two years now, and it has ruined “regular” jobs for me! There’s no way I could go back to working in a restaurant or teaching in a classroom. I love the freedom, responsibility, and sense of accomplishment that self-employment gives me.

How has your transition to working freelance with Proofed been?

The transition to freelancing with Proofed was as smooth as I could’ve hoped. I like that they ease their new proofreaders in by increasing their document word counts in increments. It made everything so much less overwhelming than it might have been otherwise. The admin team are very helpful, easy-going, and on top of things.

What do you enjoy most about proofreading?

The thing I enjoy most about proofreading is helping people polish their work and feel more confident about what they have written.

Would you say that the course is good value for money?

The course was beyond excellent value. The modules were concise and easy to follow, the exercises were very helpful, and the practice documents were invaluable.

What do you do when you’re not proofreading?

Aside from proofreading, I write travel articles for various websites and teach English as a second language online. I’m also a travel blogger for my own blog, which I work on when I have time in between everything else.

Are you making enough money?

It can depend on how many documents come through, but the money I make from Proofed is enough to cover my bills and allow me to travel at least once a month!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Knowadays is worth it ten times over! If you’re looking to improve your professional proofreading skills, I highly recommend the course.
