If you’re a student, freelance proofreading offers flexible work that fits around your busy schedule. What’s more, our Becoming A Proofreader course can help you gain skills relevant to your degree!

Jessica completed the course while studying for a degree in English Literature and now enjoys the flexibility of proofreading part time.

Hi, Jessica! What made you consider the Knowadays course?

I heard about it from an acquaintance, and it sounded interesting. I enjoy writing and thought it would be beneficial not only to improve my own skills while studying but also to help others with their own work.

What were you doing before you started the course?

I’m currently studying for a degree in English Literature, so I took this course between modules.

Was there anything surprising or particularly challenging in the course for you?

Getting to grips with the different dialects and their specific rules was difficult at first. Also, the complexity of some of the common grammar rules was something I didn’t expect!

How has your transition to working with Proofed been?

I’ve been well supported by the Proofed team. I received a gentle introduction to freelance proofreading, along with many opportunities to build up my confidence and take on bigger documents.

““I received a gentle introduction to freelance proofreading, along with many opportunities to build up my confidence and take on bigger documents.”“

What’s been the single best benefit from completing the course?

Having the opportunity to take on part time freelance work that’s flexible enough to fit around my studies has been the best part. My own writing has also improved thanks to the skills I gained from the course!

How has life changed for you as a freelance proofreader?

I can now earn income in a flexible way while working toward my degree, which is nice. When I have breaks from studying, I take on work from Proofed.

Was the course a good value for the cost?

Yes, definitely. It’s comprehensive and well supported, with the guarantee of flexible work at the end if you pass with an 80% score after three attempts.

What do you enjoy most about proofreading?

I enjoy the puzzle of untangling sentences and making them sound natural. My favorite documents to proofread are EFL academic documents, especially if they’re related to the arts.

Have you been self-employed before? How are you finding it?

I’ve never been self-employed before, and I’m really enjoying the flexibility of it, particularly while I’m committed to earning my degree.

Are you making enough money?

I’m fortunate to live at home while studying, so my earnings from working part time are enough for me right now.

Is there anything else you want to share?

I’m very grateful to have found the Knowadays course and for the opportunities and skills I’ve gained from it.
