Hi Letitia! What made you consider the Knowadays course?

I currently work for a further education college, managing a fantastic team that supports the academic staff and students. As I was planning to reduce my working hours there, I was searching for something interesting that I could do from home, and proofreading seemed a good fit.

I did lots of research and, after reading some really positive reviews about the course content, I decided that the Knowadays course was the one for me. The opportunity to work as a freelancer with Proofed was a bonus!

Had you done any proofreading before taking the Becoming A Proofreader course?

Yes, my college work also includes business and academic proofreading.

Was there anything surprising or challenging in the course for you?

The course is interesting and engaging, but challenging. The first few modules provide a gentle introduction, and then the real work starts.

I was surprised to find that my grammar and punctuation needed work, and referencing was a whole new world of learning.

I have acquired new professional skills to help plan a future where it is my decision how my time is spent.

Was the course good value for money?

What do you enjoy most about proofreading? And do you have a favorite type of document to proofread?

I enjoy the variety of documents I proofread and how, through proofreading, I gain insight into so many topics.

I particularly like proofreading clinical subjects and creative writing. I also quite enjoy proofreading PowerPoint presentations.

How has your transition to freelance work with Proofed been?

Proofed clearly explained the steps to becoming a freelance proofreader, ensuring that my transition to freelance work was smooth and enjoyable.

The support and feedback I received when taking my first steps as a proofreader were invaluable. I’m on my way now but I’m still learning.

What is your day-to-day routine like now?

My days are full-on, as I like to be busy. Presently, I work during the day and proofread in the evening. However, my routine will soon change for the better, and I hope to have more time in my garden (between working on documents, of course).

I am looking forward to planning my day around my family and my dog, enjoying more “me” time and working for myself.

Are you making enough money?

I have recouped the cost of the course already and will earn more as my proofreading word count increases.

Is there anything else you want to add?

I didn’t have the opportunity to study at university and gained my work-based qualifications as an adult learner on a day release basis.
