The Engineer

If you have a passion for reading and are looking for some variety in your working day, becoming a proofreader can be a great way to supplement your main income. To find out more about how this works, we spoke to Aleks. He is an engineer and Knowadays graduate who is happy to be satisfying his inner bookworm in his second job as a freelance proofreader.

Where in the world are you? And what were you doing before you started the course?

I’m in Dresden, Germany, and I was making sure bridges don’t collapse – I’m an engineer.

Was there anything surprising in the course for you?

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of proofreading exercises; they helped me a lot.

Was the course good value for money?

Absolutely!

How has your transition to working as a freelance proofreader with Proofed been? What is your day-to-day routine like?

Starting work with Proofed has been a seamless experience because of the friendly and helpful team. Not to mention that being paid to improve texts is a dream come true.

Currently, I work as an engineer in the morning and as a proofreader in the afternoon. When I’m not working, you can usually find me immersed in a good book (written in English, Bulgarian, Russian, German, or French).

What do you enjoy most about proofreading? And do you have a favorite type of document or subject area to proofread?

I enjoy playing with words. My favorite subject area to proofread is computer science.

Have you been self-employed before? How are you finding it?

Yes, I’ve worked as a freelance translator. I enjoy the freedom of being my own boss.

Are you proofreading elsewhere, in addition to your work at Proofed?

If you don’t count correcting friends, no.

Is there anything else you want to share?

Yes. It’s fine to end a sentence with a preposition.
