How does the Proofreader & Editor Course Bundle work?
When you purchase the Proofreading & Editing Course Bundle, two courses will be added to your account: Becoming A Proofreader and Becoming An Editor.
You can work through the lessons in your own time, beginning with Becoming A Proofreader and then moving on to Becoming An Editor when you’re ready.
At the end of each course, there is a final assignment, which is graded by a tutor. If you achieve distinction scores of 80% or higher in each final assignment, you will be invited to enter a 10-document trial period with Proofed, which will lead to more work upon successful completion of the trial.
If you don’t achieve a distinction score on your first attempt, you can purchase additional attempts, and the work guarantee still applies just the same.

Do I need to complete both courses to be eligible for the work guarantee?
Yes. To enter a 10-document trial period with Proofed, you must complete both Becoming A Proofreader and Becoming An Editor, scoring 80% or above in each final assignment.
The courses can be purchased together or one at a time, but you must successfully complete both to be eligible for the work guarantee.

Is anyone eligible for the work guarantee?
While anyone is welcome to take courses with Knowadays, including the course bundle, the work offer with Proofed is dependent on your location.
To be able to onboard to the Proofed platform, you must be registered for tax purposes in a country that has a dual-tax treaty with the US. This may or may not be the country in which you currently reside. You can review Proofed’s list of eligible countries to make sure you’re in a suitable location for the platform.

Is there a time limit on completing the courses and achieving distinction grades?
No! You can complete each course at your own pace, and you can take time off whenever you need to. And the tutor team is available to help you get back in the swing of things if you need an extended break!
Some learners complete the courses back to back, while others leave a gap between them. As long as you score 80% or above in each final assignment, you can take up a trial with Proofed, and it’s absolutely fine to take your time!

Does it matter which course I complete first?
We strongly recommend beginning with Becoming A Proofreader. A good editor needs to have strong proofreading skills, which includes being able to recognize and fix errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Completing Becoming A Proofreader first builds a strong foundation for moving on to the more advanced techniques covered in Becoming An Editor.

What if I don’t score 80% in my final assignments?
If you don’t achieve a distinction score in your first attempt at the Becoming A Proofreader assignment, you can purchase up to two more attempts with new test documents. After the first Becoming An Editor final assignment, you can purchase one further attempt with a new document.
You do not have to score 80% or above in Becoming A Proofreader in order to move on to Becoming An Editor, and some learners find it useful to take a break from proofreading and move on to editing to better understand the difference between the two tasks. It is then your choice whether you try the editing assignment or make a second attempt at the proofreading assignment first. The tutor team can help you decide on the most suitable path for you.
If you do not reach distinction scores in both Becoming A Proofreader and Becoming An Editor, then you cannot enter a work trial with Proofed, but this is not the end of the road! Not achieving distinction scores does not automatically mean you are a bad proofreader or editor; it often just means that you need more study and practice to become comfortable with the role.
We aim for our courses to equip you with all the skills you need to set up as an independent freelancer, no matter how you do on the final assignment. With ongoing access to your courses, you can continue to learn and develop your skills. Once you’ve studied the areas flagged in your assignment feedback and feel confident in your skills, you can apply to other proofreading agencies, market yourself on freelancer sites, or launch an independent business.
